F1 Team IMPULSO in Podium Finish
Jarrow School’s F1 in Schools Team, Impulso has been making headlines in their quest to be British Champions at Silverstone Race Circuit.
The F1 in Schools competition is the biggest competition of its kind. Winners represent the UK in World Finals with 32 different countries for more information go to www.f1inschools.co.uk.
Having won the North East finals and having the fastest car in the UK, hopes were high for a good finish in our first year of competing. Andrew Conquer, Miles Kearvell, Aaron Charlton, Alex Campbell, Jessica Wingove and Izzy Campbell are a team of six students, five from Year 10 and one from Year 9 who have worked tirelessly to get ready for the national finals at Silverstone. Their remit was re-designing the car, preparing pit lane displays, presentations and design portfolios. All this coupled with fundraising was a huge challenge.
The competition finals proved a massive learning curve on what we hope will be the first of many visits. Moving up from the regional heats to compete was a fantastic experience. To come away with two awards Best Sponsorship, Media & Marketing Award plus overall UK Development Class runner up was a great reward for all the hard work. Being so close to getting the chance to represent the UK at the World Finals in Kuala Lumpur was tinged with ‘what might have been’ but fired up the team to go one better next year.
Special thanks must go to all the teams supporters but special mention to NAC at Nissan, Lisa at Halo Photography who gave up hours of their time and massive amounts in terms of resources to help the team. Huge appreciation also goes to the local media in the form of the Gazette, BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC’s Look North for covering the team’s progress.
We are rightly proud of the team and how hard they had worked to get as far as they did. Let us hope that this is just the start of greater success to come.
