Royal Navy Wildcat Helicopter Visit
Our students we’re given a rare treat on a sunny Thursday in September when a former student dropped in to visit in a very unique way!
Lieutenant Commander Graeme McCutcheon of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, with Lieutenant Commander Paul D'Arcy and Lieutenant Glŷr Garner, landed their Navy Wildcat helicopter on our school field.
Lieutenant Garner accompanied Chief Petty Officer Scott Mather and Leading Hand Andrew Hallimond, Royal Navy Careers Officers from HMS Calliope, in delivering a presentation to some of our year 7 and 9 students in class before each group was taken outside to be given a tour of the impressive Wildcat by Lieutenant Commanders McCutcheon and D'Arcy.
Students learned about life in the Royal Navy and some of the opportunities that serving in the Fleet Air Arm can provide. The tour of the helicopter was a clear highlight to students and staff alike! The flight crew were engaging and informative while giving students the chance to sit at the controls of the helicopter and try some of the safety equipment the crew use on board.
All students and staff involved would like to thank our visitors for what was a very special experience and we hope to see you all again in the near future.
