Location

Jarrow School is situated on the edge of the town of Jarrow close to the river Tyne. The school serves families from all areas of Jarrow and nearby towns such as Hebburn and South Shields.

Learning

Personalized approaches employed by us mean that each student has the best possible choice of subjects and is guided by a personal tutor.  We have the highest of expectations of what can be achieved and the key to our success is a purposeful community where learning is stimulating and enjoyable. Our motto is ‘Engineering, Excellence in Education’ and our aims are very clear; to develop a diverse school where quality teaching enables everyone to learn and to fulfil their potential.  Our team of outstanding teachers and support staff all work together to deliver the best possible education for our students.

In 2007 Jarrow School was designated a Specialist School of Engineering and as such we work closely with a partnership of local primary and secondary schools, international schools, sponsors, major employers (including Siemens, JCB, Virgin Galactic, Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, Honda, Cunard), colleges, universities and other organisations in promoting excellence in all subjects. In addition Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Technology are a particular strength in Engineering.

We work closely with parents.  In addition to being able to talk individually to form tutors or classroom teachers, we encourage parents to provide feedback and become involved in the life of the school.  New parents had an opportunity to look around the school during our Open Evening which we held in October 2009. There will be a further opportunity later this term.

Our new building was completed at the end of October. It cost £20m and provides school facilities second to none in the area.  Jarrow School was chosen as the first totally new school building in the South Tyneside and Gateshead Building School’s for the Future [BSF] central Government programme. The school is a PFI school. Carillion Facilities Management are responsible for the premises.
