A message from the Head Teacher
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our school.
Jarrow School is housed in a landmark building in Field Terrace which was opened in November 2009. Our facilities are of exceptional quality, generously proportioned with a range of specialist state-of-the art classrooms, studios and laboratories. The provision of computers and other information technology equipment means that everyone has easy access to the school’s VLE and safe access to a high speed Internet connection.
The school also houses Local Authority centres for hearing impaired and autistic students and we have a range of additional resources and specialist staff in these areas.
A new community swimming pool has recently opened on our site and the final stage of the external sporting facilities has now almost reached completion.
Jarrow School is a safe and caring place to be. Just over one hundred teaching and support staff ensure that teaching, and the day to day care of our young people is first class. Inspectors from Ofsted commented that:
‘Students say they enjoy coming to school and feel very safe while they are there.’
‘Students’ outstanding behaviour makes a very positive contribution to the school and contributes strongly to a harmonious and welcoming community.’
We pride ourselves on a curriculum that has something for everyone, tailoring the option subjects studied to suit individual needs.
Results in the school have increased year on year since 2006 and we are confident that our current year 11 students will go on to produce even more outstanding results.
Our Specialist Engineering status has brought enhanced facilities for our students and for the wider community and has allowed us to foster engineering skills and aptitudes such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving and creativity amongst all our students. Transferrable skills such as these help prepare our students for further and higher education and adult working life.
In addition we have a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to participate in. We also encourage visits to places of educational interest and in recent times students have spent time in London, Paris and Hinterglemm in Austria
Thank you for your interest in our school. I hope that this website will give you an insight into the high quality provision we offer. If you still have any questions or would like to come and visit please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.
Miss J. Gillies
