Coronavirus Updates

COVID-19 absence: A quick guide for parents/carers.

Letter from Minister Ford to children and young people with SEND, their families and carers, and those who work to support them.

Face Coverings
We are not insisting on students wearing face coverings at the current time (unless there is a local lockdown) as we will not have year groups crossing in corridors and break and lunch times are within year group bubbles. Students can however wear a face covering in corridors and at social times if they prefer to.

Year 11 Results 2020

Congratulations to our year 11 students on their results.

Although things have been a little different this year, our year 11 students have achieved some excellent results with some outstanding individual performances. We are still awaiting the final results of some vocational qualifications however we hope to be able to share these with students soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our year 11 students for their hard work and dedication throughout their time at Jarrow School to enable them to achieve these results. Obtaining good GCSE results is not easy and although students did not sit the actual exams this year, they still worked extremely hard leading up to the March lockdown. Many students were extremely disappointed that they did not have the opportunity to sit their exams and experience the end of their Jarrow School career as they would have liked to. Despite this sudden end to their time at the school, they should be extremely proud of their achievements.

I wish every year 11 student good luck and very best wishes for the future.

A message from the Head Teacher

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to our school.

Jarrow School is housed in a landmark building in Field Terrace which was opened in November 2009.  Our facilities are of exceptional quality, with a range of specialist state-of-the art classrooms, studios and laboratories.  The provision of computers and other information technology equipment means that everyone has easy access to the school’s VLE and safe access to a high speed Internet connection.

The school also houses a Local Authority centre for autistic students and we have a range of additional resources and specialist staff in this area.

A community swimming pool is also based on our site and this is used regularly by Jarrow School students.

Jarrow School is a safe and caring place to be.  Our teaching and support staff ensure that teaching and the day to day care of our young people is first class.  Inspectors from Ofsted commented that:

‘Pupils are extremely positive about their school and they feel safe and are happy.’

‘Pupils behave extremely well. They are smart, polite, extremely supportive and interested in their school and keen to do well.’

‘Pupils are confident learners and achieve well. They are ready for the next steps in their education and future lives.’

We pride ourselves on a curriculum that has something for everyone, tailoring the option subjects studied to suit individual needs.

Results in the school have increased significantly in recent times and we are confident that our current year 11 students will go on to produce even more outstanding results.

We have many enhanced facilities in our practical subject areas which allow us to develop skills and aptitudes such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and creativity amongst all our students. Transferable skills such as these help prepare our students for further and higher education and adult working life.

In addition we have a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to participate in.  We also encourage visits to places of educational interest and in recent times students have enjoyed trips to London, Poland, Austria and France.

Thank you for your interest in our school.  I hope that this website will give you an insight into the high quality provision we offer.  If you still have any questions or would like to come and visit please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.
