The learning resource centre is in the ‘heart’ of the school. It is an open airy space on the main floor, where students and staff can use various resources. There are currently over 3000 books (increasing weekly), 9800 safe internet links, audio books and links to ITV Signed Stories.
We use a software package from Micro Librarian called Eclipse.net which students can access inside school or from home, allowing them to view resources, search for information, make reservations on- line and even write their own review of the books they have read!
The centre has a more relaxed atmosphere after school when students can listen to their iPods, catch up with their friends, do homework, take part in quizzes etc. The library is open every day until 3.45pm.
Jarrow School is always keen to embrace new technology which students find stimulating – so watch this space for new ideas and maybe electronic books will not be far away.....
