House System and Rewards
House System
Our House System is designed to play a central role in school life. Its intent is to bring together students across all year groups to build a strong sense of belonging, pride and community. Each student is a proud member of one of our four Houses – Bede, Cookson, Palmer or Wilkinson – where they are encouraged to develop confidence, create positive relationships and contribute to the wider school culture. Each name, alongside its crest and values, were designed and voted for by our school community as a strong representation of the town of Jarrow and its history.
Throughout the year, students attend House Assemblies based around British Values while also competing in a variety of different House Challenges both individually and as a part of their House to accumulate House Points. House Points are awarded using the following criteria.
- Attendance
- Achievement/Progress
- Enrichment
- Demonstrating School Values (Respect, Resilience, Responsibility)
- House Challenges
Weekly House Updates are shared with students every Monday by their form teacher and remain available throughout the week via the student VLE and dining hall projector.
Rewards
Our Reward System is centred around developing the core skills of our students. We aim to develop them as well-rounded and responsible individuals, fully prepared for the world of work and the many challenges that life can bring. Respect, Resilience and Responsibility are the core values we instil in our students to help them achieve success both in and out of the classroom.
Rewards at Jarrow School directly link to our School House System. Students are awarded House Points for demonstrating positive character traits both in and outside of the curriculum and therefore contributing to the positive ethos of the school. See House System above.
Individually, students accumulate House Points to progress along the route of the Jarrow March. Each point they achieve, equates to a mile on their journey to London. They are rewarded for each milestone they reach along this journey as shown in the diagram below.
