Post 11 ARB

Post 11 Additional Resource Base (ARB)

Jarrow School's ARB provides specialist support for pupils with autism within an inclusive mainstream school environment.

The ARB provides specialist teaching, personalised support and a nurturing environment that enables pupils to thrive academically, socially and emotionally, whilst remaining part of the wider school community. The provision is designed to help young people build confidence, independence and the skills they need for successful adult lives.

Pupils attending the ARB benefit from a highly structured and supportive environment, alongside access to mainstream lessons, enrichment activities and wider school experiences where appropriate, based on their individual strengths, needs and aspirations. Provision is tailored to each pupil and is informed by their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), identified outcomes and preparation for adulthood goals.

What We Offer

Jarrow School Post 11 Additional Resource Base offers:

  • Specialist teaching and personalised learning programmes
  • Structured support for social communication and interaction
  • Emotional regulation and wellbeing support
  • Preparation for adulthood opportunities
  • Enhanced transition support
  • Small group teaching and targeted interventions

Our experienced staff work collaboratively to ensure that all pupils’ strengths are recognised and developed, whilst providing support to overcome barriers to learning and participation.

Inclusion and Mainstream Access

As part of Jarrow School, pupils in the ARB have access to the school's facilities, specialist teaching staff, pastoral support and extracurricular opportunities. We are committed to ensuring that pupils are active members of the school community and are able to participate meaningfully in school life.

Admissions

Admission to the ARB is arranged by South Tyneside Local Authority through the EHCP process.

Places are available for pupils with an EHCP whose primary need is autism and where the Local Authority determines that the ARB is the most appropriate provision to meet the pupil's needs.

Working in Partnership with Families

We value the important role that parents and carers play in their child's education and believe that positive outcomes are achieved through close partnership working. We encourage regular communication with families and operate an open and supportive approach to working together.

Visits to the ARB are welcomed. We kindly ask that parents, carers and professionals contact the school in advance to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
