Careers Guidance & Support

Personal Careers Guidance & Support

As part of our commitment to supporting students in making informed decisions about their future, we are pleased to offer individual careers guidance meetings for all Year 11 students.

These meetings are designed to help students explore their post-16 options, including sixth form, college or apprenticeship pathways. Each student will meet with Miss Ridley, our Careers Adviser for a one-to-one session, lasting approximately 45 minutes, where they will receive impartial advice tailored to their interests, strengths, and aspirations.

Prior to the guidance meetings, students will be informed of this process, with key information shared during form time sessions and school assemblies. They will be notified of their career’s guidance appointment approximately one week in advance, giving them time to further prepare and reflect on their future options. Parents/carers will also receive notification via the MCAS app or text message, allowing them to discuss the upcoming meeting with their child and support them in thinking about their aspirations and questions they may wish to ask. You may wish to use our question starter prompts which can be found on the parent/carer page of the careers section of the website.

Preparing for the meeting

To make the most of this opportunity, students are encouraged to:

  • Reflect on their interests, skills, and career ambitions
  • Review their interactions on Unifrog
  • Research potential courses, providers, or career paths
  • Prepare any questions they may have about next steps
  • Ensure they have recorded their P16 intentions on Unifrog

During the meeting

During the meeting, students will:

  • Discuss their KS4 subjects and predicted grades
  • Explore the post-16 options available, such as apprenticeships, sixth form, or college
  • Explore the types of qualifications available (e.g. BTECs, T Levels, A Levels, or Apprenticeship)
  • Consider where these qualifications and training options can lead, including different career areas and job roles
  • Be signposted to further resources, open events, or follow-up support where needed

Following the meeting

Students will receive a summary of the discussion and recommended next steps. Parents/carers will also receive notification via the MCAS app or text message, confirming that the meeting has taken place with encouragement to review this with their child and continue the conversation at home.

We believe these meetings are a valuable part of each student’s journey and play a key role in helping them make confident, well-informed choices about their future. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the process further, please contact Miss Ridley, Careers Adviser via email on This email address is being protected from spambots.
